The EDIB Graduate Student Fellowship Program is a project-based pilot initiative within the FAS. The fellowship is open to all FAS departments and areas, and all GSAS students in FAS programs.

EDIB Graduate Fellows will work in conjunction with faculty in their departments on projects that further existing Departmental Diversity and Inclusion Strategic Plans and participate as a cohort in centralized training through the FAS Office for Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging. Projects may address different areas including, but not limited to, culture, recruitment, community-building, curriculum, or climate.  Harvard University Affiliates can view a list of the 2023-2024 Fellowship Sites and projects in this document. Based on the type of project(s), the EDIB Graduate Fellows will also engage with the GSAS Office of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging and/or with the Derek Bok Center for Teaching and Learning.

The program will provide valuable professional development for graduate students, support and build on planned EDIB work in the departments, and improve courses by promoting inclusive teaching practices and curriculum development.

EDIB Graduate Fellows will be funded at a rate of $6,700 for the entire Fellowship term ($3,350 per semester). Cross-departmental and cross-divisional matches between departments and fellows are highly encouraged.

Host Department Commitment

We recommend that host departments/areas meet with their Fellows 2-3 times a month to ensure that they are receiving adequate support for their work.

Student Commitment

Fellows will be expected to spend 8-10 hours per week on their department/area projects during the 2024-2025 academic year. Fellows will also take part in regular cohort meetings and professional development workshops covering key EDIB topics. The program will close with Fellows giving a brief overview of their work to deans across the FAS, program representatives and their Fellow cohort.
