Faculty/Science Liaisons for Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity

Purpose of Faculty/Science Liaisons for Equity, Inclusion and Diversity
The Faculty/Science Liaisons for Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity (Faculty/Science LEID) is an initiative to engage with faculty and center directors (only in the Division of Science) at the departmental level with equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging matters.  This program cultivates a shared governance approach to faculty/center director engagement in EDIB work. As a standing program, LEIDs institutionalize this work and promote cross-unit and cross-division collaboration. Further, this program provides an opportunity to build rapport among faculty from different departments and to increase capacity. The FAS Office for EDIB provides support, strategies, and best practices to the monthly LEID meetings on EDIB themes (i.e., diversity and inclusion committees, inclusive pedagogy, etc.).

Overview
Departments are asked to appoint a faculty member or center director who is tasked with bringing EDIB-related departmental matters to monthly LEID meeting with FAS EDIB and Divisional leadership. In between meetings, LEIDs are asked to work with their departmental leadership and local EDIB committees to promote the implementation of best practices and contribute to divisional, FAS, and university-wide EDIB goals.

Program Objectives
– Creating regular convenings with faculty/center directors to discuss EDIB work at the department and divisional level.
– Offering opportunities for faculty/center directors to learn strategies from their peers and collectively engage in problem solving.
– Leveraging FAS EDIB expertise to build faculty EDIB capacity through presentations, discussions, and guest speakers.
– Providing a venue to learn more about FAS and university-wide resources and how to promote engagement with EDIB work and with FAS EDIB programs and initiatives.
